It would be nice if we were all on the same page about what rules we’re enforcing so there isn’t any grey areas that we have to worry about. The management team could use some help as well. It’s not ideal and I’m hoping to get out soon before my health suffers more. You get very sick to the point that you’re constantly waking up at night coughing and can barely catch your breath. The concentration of chlorine in the park along with everything else leads to what we call “guard cough”. I wouldn’t recommend working as a lifeguard in the Dells park though if you have difficulties breathing like say if you had asthma. Getting days off has been hard but my schedule has been changing more lately which I appreciate. It’s pretty sad how much we have to rely on outside help and when it’s not available, everything goes down the tube. Most everyone is working double shifts and we have to ask other lodges for help to send us their guards that are currently out of work right now. Normally we get help from J-1 students but with the travel restrictions, it’s impossible right now. The downside is how short staffed it’s been since COVID has hit. You’re able to get some exercise in by walking back and forth so if you like a physical job, this is one for you. Working as a lifeguard, you get paid very well for maintaining the safety of the guests around you. They list lots of positions here every single day which just proves my words. If you're looking for long-term employment this company is not for you. They don't want to keep hard-working people. I liked my position and wanted to work more but they were overstuffed after summer and decided to fire me. They will easily find the reason to fire their employees. They can send you home anytime, your superiors are not trained enough to help you, so I had to deal with issues on my own. However, the way the management was treating me is really bad. I've learned that a bunch of skills though. It's very disorganized place: you have to contact management every single shift to be able to start your shift. I've been working with this company almost a year. The company is not familiar with immigration / employment laws and wanted to deny my employment thinking I was not allowed to work (because I'm not American), which was their mistake and incompetence. They run background checks, alcohol and drug tests. When I have applied they called me for an interview immediately.
